1814 First occupied by 8 Russian cossacks, later by Swedes, finally German.
1815 Joined to the Netherlands.
I, inhabitant of Brooksittard, don't care who my sovereign is. But the
main road through my village runs from West to East. In the spring of 1830
 I rebel against my Dutch government and in the fall I break away from the
Netherlands. Against my wish, in 1839 Brooksittard is again joined to the
Netherlands. Simultaneously it becomes a menber of the German federation.
In 1848 I try to get under full German jurisdiction, but I stay Dutch.
